Privacy Policy

Last updated June 2026

Overhead is built to respect your privacy. We collect as little as possible, and we never sell your data. This policy explains what the app uses and why.

Location

Overhead uses your location to calculate what's visible in your sky — sunset and darkness, satellite passes, the moon, planets, and local conditions. Your location is used on your device. If you turn on aurora alerts, an approximate location is sent to our notification service so it can tell whether an aurora may be visible near you; it is used only to decide which alerts to send.

Notifications

If you enable notifications, Apple issues a device token that we use to deliver alerts (such as a bright pass or a possible aurora). The token identifies a device for delivery, not you personally.

Weather

Conditions are provided by Apple Weather (WeatherKit). Apple's handling of weather requests is governed by Apple's privacy policy.

What we don't do

Overhead has no account or login, and does not ask for your name, email, or contacts. We don't include third-party advertising, and we don't use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs. We don't sell or rent your data to anyone.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed by Apple. We never see or store your payment details; Apple shares only the anonymized purchase status the app needs to unlock Pro features.

Data retention

Information used to deliver notifications (your device token and the approximate area for aurora alerts) is kept only while you have notifications enabled, and is removed when you turn them off or stop using the app.

Children

Overhead is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy as the app changes; the date above reflects the latest version. For any privacy question, contact us at the support address listed on the app's App Store page.
